The mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) of municipal solid waste This is a closed and aerated stabilisation process based on experience gained from composting.
- Flexible and mobile system
- Short treatment period
- As a result of stabilisation, a mass loss of 30-40% and volume loss of 40-50% is achieved
- Further loss of mass can be achieved by separating the fractions that can easily be selected out and later recycled (glass, metal, and stabilised organic waste)
The stable residual waste, in which no decomposition processes are under way, can be utilised in the following ways:
- Deposition in a landfill site
- Secondary fuel with high calorific value in an incinerator plant
